This painting, of a church and its garden around here , is done in Rembrandt and Faber Castell pastels on Hahnemühle pastel paper:
This one is also in pastels on Strathmore toned paper, loosely based on a photo I had taken about a year back while on a visit to California. We had bad weather so my reference was not very good, and not even of a sunset….. but I badly wanted to do one of a beach .. so I improvised:
I am working on this one right now, of beautiful scraggly weather beaten pines on the same rocky shore as the painting above. I am working with a dip pen and black ink on rough watercolor board. It`s really fun trying to capture the textures of the bark on the rough board. I`ve used a brush to soften the edges of the marks and sometimes to just lay in some clean water and then do the markings.
